Risky Inquiry: Developing an Ethics for Philosophical Practice

Abstract Philosophical inquiry strives to be the unencumbered exploration of ideas. That is, unlike scientific research, which is subject ethical oversight, it commonly thought that would either inappropriate, or undermine what philosophy fundamentally if philosophical research were similar oversight. Against this, I argue in need a reckoning. morally hazardous practice with its own risks. There are risks present methods we employ, inherent content views under consideration, and subjects our inquiry. Likely, there more still. However, by starting identification these three can demonstrate not only why an ethics needed but also avenues most promising for developing practice. Although might just business asking questions, do merely, virtue engaging inquiry, absolve ourselves responsibility incurs.
